Western Downs Transport is owned by the James family who have been farming and carting in the Dalby region since 2004.
Simon James has a long connection to agricultural industry. His family originally hails from the rich cropping region of Narrabri and his resume includes time on stations in the northern territory, horse breaking and pre-training, security, house building and construction, farm management and earth moving.
He spent seven years on a family cotton and grain farm and provided delivery services for a local rural supplies firm before launching Western Downs Transport in 2011. This rounded experience makes him an efficient manager of logistics and a problem solver who’s not afraid of hard work.
Wife Megan, (nee Fleischfresser) grew up on cotton and grain property “Mayfield” near Dalby and has a business degree and professional experience in marketing, communication and governance. Her background offers a complementary skill set to the business through administration, booking keeping and compliance support. It is a family affair with the James’ three teenagers also helping in the business with truck and trailer cleaning and administration.
Western Downs Transport won the encouragement award at the Dalby Business Excellence awards in 2018.
